The name Origins has a simple meaning for us.
Fibre optic technology is about light, speed and increasingly sophisticated networks. But at its core, a good fibre cable still comes down to a few fundamentals: protect the fibre, protect the connection and build something installers can rely on.
Origins takes us back to those fundamentals.
We looked at what we liked about ruggedised fibre cables and what we liked about armoured fibre cables, then brought those ideas together into a single design.
Ruggedised + Armoured in One Cable
Origins is not simply another thick fibre patch cable.
It has an overall diameter of 4.7mm, giving it a more substantial physical construction than a conventional fibre patch cord, while incorporating the protection expected from an armoured cable.
The objective was not simply to make a bigger cable.
The objective was to make a better protected fibre cable that remains practical to install, route and handle.
That is the philosophy behind Origins.
Why 4.7mm?
Fibre cable design is always a balance.
A very thin cable can be easy to route, but may not provide the level of physical protection wanted in more demanding installations. At the other extreme, an unnecessarily bulky cable can become difficult to handle.
Origins uses a 4.7mm overall cable diameter to strike a balance between toughness and practicality.
It feels substantial in the hand, provides room for its protective construction and still remains manageable for everyday fibre installation work.
Australia Deserves This
Australian fibre installations do not always happen inside perfectly controlled communications rooms.
Technicians work through homes, garages, roof spaces, conduits, cabinets, commercial premises and many other environments where fibre cables can be exposed to considerably more physical handling than a typical patch lead sitting inside a rack.
That was an important consideration when developing Origins.
We wanted a cable suited to the reality of Australian installations.
